Week Eight – Calcium

So far, the nutrients we’ve used have not contained any calcium, which is needed to form the fleshy part of a tomato.

There are a number of ways we can do this…

  • Cal-Mag hydroponic solution
  • Foliar spray with Chempak Calcium
  • 50-50 water/skimmed milk used as foliar spray

The bigger the tomatoes, the more calcium is needed, so if we are only growing a dwarf variety, a spray once every two weeks after the first flower has set fruit, is enough.

If you started around the same time as I did, seven to eight weeks ago, you should see flower buds beginning to form. It’s amazing that such a small plant will soon be providing us with plenty of cherry tomatoes!
